Awards

Apple Prize

This prize rewards scientists who are inspiring and keep the spark alive, these are the people that stop us all from changing profession despite the lack of long term job prospects.

Students

ASL student prize for the Best Oral Presentation by a PhD or Masters Student

ASL student prize for the Best Oral Presentation by an Honours Student

ASL student prize for the Best Poster Presentation

Posters are assessed during the dedicated poster session and must be attended by the author, who will explain the presentation and field questions. There will be no oral sessions concurrent with the poster session.

Marine & Freshwater Research student prize for Best Interdisciplinary Presentation

NSW Murray Wetlands Working Group student prize for Best Wetlands Presentation

The MWWG Student Prize is awarded to a student (Honours/Masters/PhD) for the presentation of either a poster or paper that has direct relevance to wetland management, preferably with community involvement. It is aimed at recognising the valuable contribution that such research studies can make to natural resource management and to provide encouragement for students to continue their excellent work.

National Water Commission student prize for Knowledge and Capacity Building

To be eligible for a student prize, students;

  • should be current, financial members of ASL
  • must give their presentation within 18 months of receiving their degree (or working towards the degree)
  • can win each of the awards only once. Thus a student who has won the PhD award is no longer eligible for that award but would be eligible to submit a poster for the poster award. A student who has won the honours award would still be eligible for each of the other awards.

The student prizes will be judged by a committee convened by the ASL Executive. Wherever possible, such committees will not contain supervisors or co-authors of candidates for the prizes.
